Hello.
Welcome to my blog “From the sidelines,” where I have the opportunity to provide more in depth coverage on local sports. On this blog you will have the chance to get things you wouldn’t get by just reading the newspaper, either online, or by print. I try to go into detail as to, for example, why this game is big or how this player or that player is doing well. I often times will insert my opinion, but I am not afraid to listen to others who may disagree.
When I first got into the newspaper business, my hope was to work myself up so that I may go on and write sports on the national level. I have since changed my mind.
Fact is, covering area sports, especially at the prep level, is something I enjoy. I would much rather meet and interview a local than to do the same of a professional athlete.
I figure the reason why I look at doing this as being more of a hobby rather than a job is due to my local background.
I am a Jacksonville native who graduated from White Oak High School and went on to graduate from Coastal Carolina Community College. I also was a member of the Jacksonville Raiders semi-professional football team.
I like to think of myself as someone who our readers depend on to provide outstanding coverage of our local events, whether or not that comes from writing about a game or doing a feature story on an area athlete that is doing well in their sport.
One of the best things about working with high school teams is when I run into a coach or a player and we go on and on about this and that.
It’s very rewarding when those people are aware of the hard work.
In conclusion, I would like to send off by saying what has become my line on this blog … Now back to the action.
